Elsfield Manor, Oxford.
12th October, 1932.
John Edgar, Esq., Crichton Royal, Dumfries.
My dear John,
I was very glad to get your letter and to hear that you had decided, first of all, to apply for extra leave, and, second, to leave the Crichton. I think the best chance is that you should begin quietly at Killyleoch, and then, when you get a little stronger, go to Edinburgh, or come to us at Oxford. A good halfway house would be Peebles, where my Mother is very anxious to welcome you.
This is a miserable business for you, and we are all desperately sorry for you, but if you plug straight ahead I am as certain that you will get through as that the sun will rise tomorrow. Let me know if there is anything I can send you in the way of books and papers.
Next week we begin a rather dificult session of Parliament. Much love. from John Buchan
