Elsfield Manor, Oxford.

19th October, 1932.

John Edgar, Esq.,
Killyleoch,
Dunscore,
Dumfriesshire.

My dear John,

Your letter of 14th October gave me very great pleasure.
I am so glad you have taken this step, for I am very sure it is
the right one. Your one business is to build up your health, and
that is a profession in itself. Of course, it will be a dull time,
but your interest in things will revive as soon as you get a little
stronger. It must be a very bitter disappointment to give up
Egypt, but if you get well you will go back there.

Do tell me anything I can send you. I do not know what
your tastes in reading are - they are probably capricious at present;
but if you will let me know, you will have anything you want
by return of post.

You need not feel uncomfortable because of being laid
on the shelf for the moment. It happens to most of us, and the
only thing is to get quite fit on the shelf, so as to be able to
get off it as soon as possible.

We all send our love, and long to welcome you at Elsfield.

Yours ever,
John Buchan
