Elsfield Manor, Oxford.
7th September, 1932.
John Edgar, Esq., Crichton Royal. Dumfries.
My dear old John,
I hope to be in Scotland the week-end after next, and I wonder if I could come and see you at Dumfries? I shall be travelling up on Friday the 16th, and I think would get to Dumfries about five o'clock. Could I see you any time that evening? I shall have to go on to Peebles next day.
I have just lately got back from a long expedition with my boy John to the Färoes. Before I left London I wanted to see you, but Crichton Miller thought I had better delay, and then I heard you had gone to Scotland. I have heard a good deal about you from my family and Johnnie Jameson. I need not tell you how desperately anxious I am to know that you are improving, and how much I long to have a talk with you. Could you send me a postcard to say if the date I suggest suits you?
Yours ever,
John Buchan
