Elsfield Manor, Oxford.

15th December, 1932.

John Edgar, Esq., Killyleoch, Dunscore, Dumfriesshire.

My dear John,

Your letter gave me very great pleasure. It is the best news I have heard for many a day that you are sleeping better. You will want artificial help for some time yet, but I am perfectly certain that you will slowly conquer your insomnia.

I will send you some more reading stuff at the end of the week. Could you tell me if there is any special subject you would like to take up, so as to occupy your mind, and I will see that you get the proper material.

Don't, by any means, give up your hope of returning to Egypt. Some arrangement can certainly be made when you get back your health.

I have been having a terrible lot of speaking to do up and down the country, but I am very well, and am looking forward to having a little rest at Christmas.

Much love.

Yours affectionately John Buchan
