Elsfield Manor, Oxford.
12th January, 1933.
John Edgar, Esq., Killyleoch, Dunscore, Dumfriesshire.
My dear John,
I am very distressed to hear that you have been laid up again. I am afraid you must expect these little setbacks, but they are very disheartening. Still, it is a great thing that you did actually for a time sleep better, and I am perfectly certain that if you go on steadily, restored health is only a matter of time. I believe greatly in the effect of Spring in one's own country. It is desperately disappointing for you that you have had to leave Egypt. But I know you are a stout enough fellow to bear up under it.
I wish there were something I could do for my old friend beyond sending him occasional papers. Do tell me if there is anything.
I am employing my Parliamentary vacation in getting through arrears of work, principally my Cromwell, which is an immense business.
With every good wish for the New Year.
Yours affectionately,
John Buchan
