Dear Mr Buchan
I enjoyed last night's dinner very much. But I was disappointed about one thing - that I did not have the opportunity I had hoped for to ask you a number of things I had in my mind about that lovely book The Blanket of the Dark. I wanted to know more about Wychwood & Osney & the Painted floor & other matters with wish I won't bother you. But perhaps I might ask you one thing, if it isn't troubling you [too much] to tell me, for I wanted to know for a year & a half - It is about that lovely & haunting variant of Timor mortis conturbat me, of which you give four lines,

with the refrain mortis cupiditas captavit me - Is there any more, & did you make it, or is it to be found anywhere?
I do really apologise for assaulting a busy M.P. with questions, but (the usual excuse of questioners) I do want to know, if ever you had a moment for a post-card, or to ask someone else to write.
The whole book is so enchanting & beautiful that I often read it for my pleasure.
Thank you for liking mine; that gives me great pleasure.
Yours sincerely
Rose Macaulay
