St. Stephen's House, London, S.W.1.

28th March, 1933.

My own darling

Did you ever know such exquisite weather? In my walk before breakfast I found St. James's Park full of daffodils and mating wild duck.

The first stage of the India debate last night was quite good. Sam Hoare was admirable, though he speaks so slowly that it is painful to listen to him. Herbert Samuel was very helpful. Simon is to speak today, and the big finish will be tomorrow with Winston and Baldwin.

I had a very pleasant dinner with the Shirleys. I liked them both enormously, and they seem devoted to Alice. I thought Richard of Bordeaux one of the best plays I have seen on the modern stage. I had not the slightest inclination to fall asleep. Alice seems to be working too hard. I wish this R.A.D.A. business were over.

Tonight I catch the 7.30 train with the Strathconas from King's Cross, and dine in the train. I hope to be back at St. Stephen's Club early on Thursday morning. It promises to be good weather.

I hope John is safely back. By the way, we seem to have forgotten Nan's birthday!

Much love.

from John
