St. Stephen's House, London, S.W.1.
31st March, 1933
My own little darling
There was no letter from you this morning! Yesterday was rather a broken day for weather, but it is fine today. I had a busy day, and was only about three hours in the House in the afternoon. That brazen creature, [ST: Lady] Maureen [Stanley], addressed the Members on birth control, and did it rather well. I dined with a lot of booksellers, including Mr. Wilson [ST: of Bumpus], a very pleasant dinner, and then went back to the House until eleven.
Today I am lunching with Trenchard to talk over the police. I do not agree with him, and I am afraid he is only hitting his head against a stone wall. I go to the Speaker's levee this evening.
Not another word of what we talked about! I think they may have probably got somebody else, for which I am just as glad. I made it clear that I would only take it in the last resort, since I meant to make my terms.
Remember I come back by the train which arrives at 10.10 tomorrow morning. I hope I shall find you all well.
Much love,
from John
