.John Edgar, Esq., Killyleoch, Dunscore, Dumfriesshire.
My dear John,
I have just got your letter of the 18th, and am desperately sorry to hear that you have arranged to go back to the Crichton. I did hope that you would have gone on picking up, however slow, at Killyleoch, for I cannot think that the Crichton is the best place for you.
Is there nothing I can do for you? I feel quite helpless less being so far away. I can only hope that at the Crichton you may pick up sufficiently to get back to Killyleoch again very soon. I would come up to Dumfries on purpose if you would tell me if there is anything I can do.
Yours ever, John Buchan
