St. Stephen's House, London, S.W.1.
25th April, 1933
My own darling
I got your letter this morning when I arrived, after a pleasant journey. I had an extraordinarily busy day in Edinburgh yesterday, but the weather was beautiful. I dined with old Hugh Dalrymple and Herbert Maxwell, and had an interesting talk about ancient days.
The suite will be announced in the papers tomorrow. As I said in my letter yesterday, I think it may be necessary to have one A.D.C. and one Maid not arriving until the 23rd, for the 22nd is going to be very congested. I hope I can induce Edward Irwin to stay until the Sunday and go to Church. Will you please wire to me any replies you get. It is like a jigsaw puzzle fitting in the people who are to stay at the Palace. Everything else is quite straightforward. The Purse-Bearer is extraordinarily competent.
I am glad you had a happy day with the children.
I am dining with Mother tonight, and go to Cardiff tomorrow afternoon.
It is mild, muggy weather here, but I suppose that is what is wanted.
Much love. from John
I want to ask for one night either with Hartington or the Billy Gores. Which do you advise?
