St. Stephen's House, London, S.W.1.
My own darling
14th June, 1933
My own darling
I got to the House yesterday at 4.30, and was much chaffed by people making me mock bows - chiefly Nancy. She had heard from Waldorf about Brian, and was lyrical in his praise. We had a funny evening, and Neville Chamberlain was to announce the policy on the War Debts, first at six o'clock, and then at ten; but on both occasions he had to ask permission to postpone it. There seems to be great trouble with America. He hopes to announce it this evening at ten.
I dined at The Club, and sat between the Bishop of Durham and George Trevelyan, and had a very good talk with them and Hugh Macmillan. Then I went back to the House. Our Holyrood doings seem to have given us a great reputation.
Tonight I am going to the annual meeting of the Philosophical Institute to propose a vote of thanks to Herbert Samuel for his presidential address.
I am inundated with letters, and also small cheques, for I am Treasurer of the History of Parliament Committee.
I hope you found Billie and Alastair well.
Much love to you all.
