St . Stephen's House, London, S.W.1.

26th October, 1933

My own darling

I have just received your telegram - at eleven o'clock - and am greatly relieved. I thought of you all yesterday and all last night. I hope your weather was good, for ours became very good in the afternoon. I went for a long walk, and Johnnie came up and shot pigeons.

Hal Goodhart-Rendel was delightful and sent all kinds of messages to you. He arrived in a magnificent Rolls Royce and is evidently very well off. He is the most original talker about art and architecture I have ever met. He is very keen to take advantage of our offer to put him up occasionally.

I had a pleasant dinner with old John in the evening at the Hartebeest, with about five of his Colonial Service people. They are extraordinarily nice fellows, but pretty limited in their intellectual outlook, I thought. It does not do to mention a book to them.

I will have a busy day in London today, for I have a meeting of East London College Governors in the afternoon, and also an Everest Committee.

I long to hear details of your journey, and when you arrived.

Nan writes this morning that you and the Fairfax-Lucys are going out to tea on Sunday. Bring Webb's car and you can take me back. I long to spend an evening with you and Alice.

I have very little news. Spider [ST: our dog] is still. behaving like an elderly convalescent. Elsfield is very lonely without you.

Much love.
