My own darling

The debate yesterday was quite amusing, and I sat
through most of it, apart from a short dinner at the Club. Simon
gave Stafford Cripps a pretty good trouncing. It is rumoured
that the Liberals propose to cross the floor of the House and join
the Opposition, which would be a very good thing.

My Bill comes on this evening, but I am afraid it may be
late. I shall first of all have to rebut in the Report stage a
motion to recommit it, and then put up the case for it on the
third reading.

I can dine with your Mother tomorrow night, so I will
arrange to do so unless I hear from you to the contrary. I hope
you had a pleasant night with Beatrice.

I find a good deal of anxiety here about what Germany may now
do. Some think she will denounce the Versailles Treaty.

I am lunching with the two Hodder Williams. Tomorrow I
have an awful day - an interview with the P.M., a deputation to
the Postmaster- General, etc., and am speaking at Sunderland House
at six o'clock. I will try to join you at 6. 30 .
