St. Stephen's House, London, S.W.1.

7th December, 1933

My own darling

I had no letter from you this morning, but Mrs. Killick had, so I suppose you are all right.

I lunched with Harold yesterday. He was rather distressed at losing so many of his friends, like Birrell, lately. He says that the Lord Oxford letters to Mrs. H. have been so badly edited by Desmond [ST: McCarthy] that they have made an awful row, as all kinds of remarks about living people were all owed to remain in. I went through the book last night, and could see no harm in it.

I had Tin and Moritz Bonn and the Plesches [ST: Doctor & Mrs] to tea. The latter are very nice people, and I will do what I can to help them. Then I went with Hugh Cecil to a Group meeting of members of the House, which I will tell you all about on Friday. There was not much doing in the House, so I read at the Club after dinner.

Today I have a long conference with Dufferin all afternoon, and may have to speak in the House on the Newfoundland question.

Will you tell Webb that I hope to be back by the 10.14 train tomorrow morning. I suppose Arthur and Hilda won't come until Saturday evening. I am greatly looking forward to a quiet week-end.

Much love.
