St. Stephen's House, S.W.1.

20th March, 1934.

My own little darling

We are getting soft spring rain with a vengeance today. It will do a lot of good. I had a dripping walk with the P. M. this morning, minus Sammie, and then did some work with him at Downing Street on his speech for tomorrow night. He is going to his Hampstead house on Thursday evening till April 9th, which should do him a lot of good.

There was not much doing in the House yesterday afternoon. I have settled the Shakes Morrisons' visit to Holyrood, and more or less the Archie Sinclairs'; but it is an awful cross-words puzzle. Geordie Hamilton can be an A.D.C., and I expect to hear from Douglo [ST: now Duke of Hamilton] any hour.

I dined quietly at the Club with Rankeillour, and afterwards corrected proofs.

I am lunching with Leo Amery today to meet Prince Rohan, the head of the Austrian Nazis. Then I have to introduce the new Scottish Universities Member in the House, and have Committees right on until seven o 'clock. I am dining with Courtauld Thomson.

I do hope my old William makes a good start today. Wish him all luck from me.

Much love.

from John
