RAPALLO
Via Marsala 12-5

Dear John Buchan

This is very magnificent and regal or
viceregal of you. I haven't seen Holyrood for 32 years
and short of a, or THE, new Economic order I don't see how
I am likely to raise the carfare.

Far from abondoning troubadours I set two
of Sordello's strophes in my "Cavalcanti" opera
and I don't believe anybody who isn't "told" wd. twig
that the music was "of the era"

// thass' advantage of picking
a period where there are so few specialists. The B.B.C. did
my Villon music, and promised to do the Cavalcanti, but
Lord knows when .....

Also our falling on Janequin has cast light
on Arnaut Daniel's Canzoni. (vide my ABC of Reading, now in
press).

I will ask Faber to send you my ABC of Economics
in search of points of agreement.

Apparently Mc N. Wilson
finds something there that he didn't think Douglas
was clear about/ or whereon he agreed with me and not with
Doug//

What I see is convergence of the three healthy
movements/

and whatever you may not have thought sound in
D's early exposition may by now have been cleared up.
