My own darling
No letter from you this morning! It is pleasant spring weather, and the view from Westminster Bridge before breakfast was lovely.
I have been over Alice's manuscript and sent it to Peter Davies.
Yesterday at the Carnegie luncheon I saw the Prime Minister, the Macmillans, the Adam Smiths, the Raits, and I don't know how many more Scottish people. I went to Lucy Masterman's Trust meeting in the afternoon. She has got a much pleasanter residence now, in a flat in Battersea. The Clothworkers' dinner in the evening was very nice, where I found all kinds of old friends, including Neish who commanded the Gordons and with whom I lived in Pretoria, and Towse the blind, V.C. I think I made rather a good speech.
To -day I have engagements all morning, and am seeing Duncan about Marnie's affairs in the afternoon.
Remember to tell Webb that I come back by the 10.15 tomorrow. I hope everything goes well at Elsfield. I have no news of public affairs.
Much love. from John
