St. Stephen's House, London, S.W.1.
13th February, 1934.
My own darling
We had a horrid evening of fog yesterday - the thick, London pea-soupy variety. I spent the whole evening in the House for we had many divisions.
I saw the P.M. for a little and told him my decision about the L.H.C. [ST: Lord High Commissioner]. I did not mention the business of a P.C., for I shall be seeing him at leisure on Wednesday. He was extraordinarily nice and cordial. I gathered from him that he rather thought (and I expect he was speaking for the King) that we should have smaller dinner parties this year, lest we create a precedent which makes Edinburgh people think that they are entitled by right to dine at the Palace.
I am lunching with Circe [ST:nickname for Lady Londonderry] at one o'clock. We have a Group dinner tonight at which Anthony Eden is going to talk to us.
I do not think I shall have anything to say to you tomorrow. I do hope you won't have a foggy day for your coming to London.
I enclose Alice's letter. I have written to Buccleuch. I will tell her I will come to her on the Tuesday night, as I think I must go back to London from Glasgow on the Wednesday by the night train.
Much love.
