St. Stephen's House, S.W.1.

10th April, 1934.

My own darling

I got your letter this morning. I am all for you engaging
the parlour-maid you mention.

I have not got my London clothes with me, so I fear I
cannot go to Lady Rayleigh's funeral.

There was nothing much doing in the House yesterday.
Mr. Baldwin has had a good holiday, but rather spoilt, he said, by
an east wind and sad reflections on the state of the world. The
Prime Minister is not coming back from Hampstead for a week, so
I am not on duty in the mornings.

Today I have Peter Davies lunching with me, and I have a
long Reuter meeting afterwards. I hope to dine at The Club.

I expect a wire from you tomorrow about William. It
looks a fair day for travelling if there is no snow in the North.

Send on no letters to me here after tomorrow morning.
I propose to go up to Edinburgh tomorrow night by the 11 o'clock
train.

I have seen Douglo and he is prepared to come on the staff,
but will only be there during the big nights, as he has got arrears
of constituency work to do. He looks lean, but well. Geordie
seems to have had an awful time.

Much love to you all.

from
John
