My dear Stair,

My warmest thanks for your kind letter, which gave Susie
and me very great pleasure.

Fred's loss is one which we will feel more as the years
pass. I only saw him about once a year, but it was delightful
to know that he was there. Your friendship, I know, was a great
deal to him.

I hope soon to come and see you in your new chateau in
the Pentland Hills.
