My own darling

I was so glad to get your wire last night when I got back from dinner. You are having magnificent weather, and I hope you will all have a very happy time. Be careful on the homeward journey.

Tell Brian that the meeting of the 1922 Committee unanimously accepted my plan, and delegated Shakes [ST: WS] Morrison and myself to see the Home Secretary in the hope of getting agreed amendments. I saw Jack Gilmour at the dinner last night, and he seemed very friendly about it, and agreed that this was the best way.

The Canada dinner last night was great fun, and the speaking really good. The High Commissioner, Ferguson, is one of the best Canadians I know. I sat between Gordon Selfridge and Dr. Cody, the President of Toronto University. The latter told me that everybody in Canada was hoping I would succeed Bessborough as Governor-General. Not for me!

Today I am lunching with Harry Melchett, and the afternoon is filled with Reuter meetings. I am dining with Roderick tonight.

Gran writes mourning the departure of Johnnie. I do hope the old man will thoroughly enjoy his short time in Wales, and that Billie will get some good exercise.
