[Lord Dynevor]

Dynevor Castle Llandilo Carmarthenshire.

October 22nd, 1934.

Dear Buchan

I have just finished reading your delightful book "Oliver Cromwell " and have seldom enjoyed or been more interested in any book.

On page 242 & 243 you refer to the deeds of Cornet Joyce and I thought it might interest you to know that Charles 1. gave a silver gilt medal to Cornet Joyce, which I have in my possession. This medal only came recently in to my hands, from Mrs Joyce, my Father's sister, after her death.

In the case containing the medal is a note as follows.

"This medal given by King Charles the first "only to personal friends, has been in the "family of Mr Joyce's ancestors ever since ''it was given by the King. "This personal friend scratched the date of "of the King's Martyrdom on the medal.

"The only other in existence as far as can "be ascertained, was in the possession of "the Count D'Albani about the year 1866. "There is a Silver Medal very roughly "executed in the possession of the South "Kensington Museum."

DYNEVOR CASTLE. LLANDILO. CARMARTHENSHIRE.

This note was evidently written by Mr Joyce, the husband of my late Aunt.

It is a charming medal and the scratched date is quite clear.

Yours sincerely Dynevor
