St . Stephen' House , London, S.W.1.

10th July, 1934.

My own darling

Will you tell John that I think his passport is in my despatch box in the library. I enclose the key, which has to be pressed in before it can be turned. Will you ask him to take great care of it and give it back to me on Friday?

I have no news, except that I am very depressed , which is not news.

We had a good agriculture debate last night, and I had a long talk about Aberdeen University politics with Professor Gray.

The Canadian plan does not look so attractive. The dates are awkward - August 26th to September 7th, and there is far more speechifying than I thought, for I should have to begin with Prince Edward Island and finish in Toronto. I am getting some more information before I decide.

I have Edward Halifax and the Principal of Toronto University to lunch. Then I have many interviews, and we are having a small dinner of the Pilgrim Trustees at the Athenaeum.

It is hot and dry, but with a cool wind, so it is quite pleasant. I hope the old man will have a pleasant week to settle up all his travel arrangements. I will ring up and find out about Nancy's party, and let you know tomorrow.

Much love. from John
