St. Stephen's House,
London, S.W.1.

24th July, 1934.

My own little darling

I do hope you will have a good journey down to Wales today
and get safely back tomorrow. There seems no chance of a break
in the weather yet.

I rang up Circe this morning, and she says that [ST: Doctor] Gauthier
has no understudy in France. But she strongly recommends a Dr
Elphick of 118 Harley Street (Welbeck 1611), who has been treating
her and Mary. One of his merits is that he is very averse to
operations.

The House was very dull last night, with Walter Elliot
and his meat Bill. I had tea with S.B. He is enthusiastic about
his visit to Culzean. He said the sudden view of Arran rising out of
the mist was like the Heavenly City. I dined with Austen and Neville
and the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, and one or two others - a very
pleasant dinner.

Robert Horne is going to be at Aix for most of August.
Everyone who knows Talloires praises it highly.

I have no more news. I am going to dine at The Club tonight.

Much love.

John
