20 SION HILL BATH

29 Dec 1934

Dear Sir,

Thank you so much for your wonderful "Oliver Cromwell" Your reference on P.70 to the "falcon & varvell" makes me think that you would like to know that I have one of the varvells here before me. I send you a very bad 'rubbing' of it

The spelling 'Crumwel' is interesting. I tried to make Ainley pronounce it that way when taking the name- part in the play, but he never did so. Should you ever be in this neighbourhood and not be tired of the subject, as I expect you are after dealing with him so exhaustively, I would like you to see the silver varvell and one

or two other relics of the great man, tea caddy of O.C. and an original letter from the "golden knight." Thanking you again for the great appreciation of, pace my wife who is connected with Sir Charles Lucas of Colchester fame, the greatest of Englishmen.

I am yrs gratefully

Richard Cromwell Warner

P.S. The darned varvell wont 'rub' properly.
