34 Great King St Edinburgh

March 28th 1935

My dear John,

Pardon another letter, which you must on no account answer, as it doesn't need an answer, to give you and Susie an old friend's congratulations on ths signal honour, and on the great office to which you have been appointed. The newspapers both Scots and English reflect the unprecedented popularity of the appointment; and you can't imagine the pride and delight which your multitude of friends feel. For you and Susie have always been so kind to all your friends. Margaret and I shall never forget your kindness to us, especially your kindness in this past year.

Well John, it is a great post with

great responsibilities and opportunities, and who knows but you may have to administer this great dominion in days of crisis and peril. The world is in such a mess and confusion that no one can tell what will come out of the brewing, but one feels it will be bitter drinking. God give you guidance and strength. Christendom is disintegrating, and the Christian civilization is going through a period of weakness and decay. We'll have to rebuild Christendom, and bring back the civilization to its foundations in God and his Christ. I rejoice that there will be a Governor General of Canada who will appreciate that and will help the reconstruction

Many congratulations to you and to Susie from Margaret and the girls and myself

We'll miss you in this old country, alas,

and lots of people will miss you a lot.

Here's poor old John Edgar too: I think they should send him up to Edinburgh. I could easily find good quarters for him - in a mental home if necessary. What a catastrophe it was yon Crichton Miller sending him to the Dumfries Asylum! I wish he'd been guided by you, and had come up to stay with me before it was too late.

Well, again many congratters John. I won't write you when you become a peer, in order not to bother you further

Yours ever

Johnny Jameson.
