Dear Buchan,

I feel I must write you a line of congratulation on your appointment to be Govenor-General of Canada. I hope you will have much happiness in your work. I am very sorry indeed you will be leaving us. You are the only colleague I have had in the House who really knows Oliver Cromwell. I shall feel more lonely than ever in this place which Marjoribanks described as the Cavalier Parliament.
