[embossed letterhead: House of Commons]

March 28 1935

My dear Buchan,

I must offer you my very best congratulations on your appointment to an exalted office. You will have great opportunities to forward the 'things of the spirit' in Canada and I am sure you will find the people receptive

I have been there three times and have formed a great liking for the Canadians.

We shall miss you in the House of Commons. The average standard of speaking will drop several points.

The only drawback to your appointment is that you will no longer be able to act as Treasurer of the Institute of Philosophy, but one can hardly expect you to refuse it because of that! All good fortunes

yours

Herbert Samuel
