We are delighted at your appointment, and beg to offer congratulations. Our delight is tempered by only one regret ( - not the obvious one that we may for some years see both of of you less often, for that would be impossible, but - ) that now you will never be able to produce that Rag number

of the 'Round Table' which you once sketched for us, containing your wife's pent-up confession "What I really think of Colonials!" Well, the British Empire (Commonwealth of Nations - blast the obscene label!) will gain what English Literature will lose.
Do not think of acknowledging this - you will probably have several letters to write.
