[R. Hall]

[embossed letterhead] From: Admiral. Sir Reginald Hall.

Hawk's Lease, Lyndhurst, Hants.

Telephone: Lyndhurst 119.

not dictated.

Aprt1 1st. 1935

My dear John Buchan,

I have waited till the first rush of letters will have have been met and answered because this requires no answer I am so de1ighted to see your appointment; years ago when I stayed with you I knew that we had a proconsul ready to hand; maybe the time had been long in waiting but the country will not be the loser as we have had your brain to help over here and now you are going to fill a big opportunity in Canada; it comes at an opportune time; relations between the Dominion and ourselves are very different today to what one has been brought up to regard them; you have the capacity for seeing all this and the ability to bring them along with us; your Scotch patience will stand you in good stead; you will have the best wishes and indeed the prayers of your many friends who will ever loyally stand by you.

Believe me, no one more heartily sends his greetings and wishes then

Reggie Hall
