At a meeting of the Town Council of this Burgh it was unanimously resolved that a letter be sent on behalf of the Council and community offering their heartiest congratulations to you on your appointment as H.M. Governor-General of the Dominion of Canada.
I have, therefore, much pleasure in conveying to you these congratulations and in wishing you every success in the high and important sphere to which you have been called, and in expressing to you the hope that you will be enabled to perform your weighty duties in a manner which will prove acceptable to all concerned.
They are proud to honour you as a Scot and a fellow Burgess.
