My dear John,
I have been missing you very much and am beginning to think that it was a great mistake for me to urge that you should go to Canada! I am terribly sorry, however, to hear that you have been ill. A lot of something very much like influenza seems to be going about which, though mild, is very troublesome and requires attention. Do tell me how your illness works out. I hope with all my heart it will not mean an operation. Malcolm is also threatened with the same thing, and is being x-rayed today.
I was asking David yesterday how the affairs in which you are concerned are progressing, and everything seems to have been at a standstill during the holidays. It will be proceeded with, however. Of course Thomson's death also caused delay. The other matter will not be dealt with at the/

the Birthday, but separately. Everything is all right It is only a question of arranging the progress of events.
If you are coming to London, let me know. As a rule my hours are unusually filled up, but I would like very much to see you, if only to shake hands.
