UNION PARLIAMENT-SOUTH AFRICA.
HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY, CAPE TOWN
1st April 1935
My dear Buchan,
Governor General of Canada[!] Is it really true? I congratulat[e] you and Canada. It will be a new experience for them to get a change from the conventional run of aristocratic fainéants, and you will have a new experience of politics and politidians if all tales be true.

But apart from its politicians, who seem to me to be ever more unattractive than the worst of our kind, you will reign over a glorious country and may even put some measure of the fear of God into its politicians.
I am coming over with Hertzog for the Jubiliee celebrations and if you have not by then left for your new kingdom I shall hope to see something of you.
In the meantime every good wish
Yours sincerely
Patrick Duncan
