Dear Sir,

At the meeting of the General Council of this
University, held on the 1st instant, it was resolved
unanimously and with enthusiasm to ask me, as chairman
of the meeting, to convey to you the warmest congratulations
of our General Council on your appointment as
Governor-General of Canada. We appreciate very deeply
the good services that you have rendered to the Universities
of Scotland, and to Edinburgh in particular, as
one of their Parliamentary Representatives; and we wish
you a most successful and happy term of office in Canada.

Yours faithfully,

Thomas H Holland
Vice-Chancellor and Principal.
