St. Stephen's House, London, S. W. 1.

10th July, 1935.

My own darling

I hope you got safely back yesterday. Today promises to be very warm. I have just been to the Palace, where I had a tremendously long talk with the King about Canada, and came away laden with paraphernalia of the G.C.M.G. I never saw the King look so well and in such good spirits.

I have to lunch with the Hudsons Bay people to meet the Canadian cricket boys, and meet more Canadians at a party at Pat Hodgson's. I am seeing Alfred Hitchcock about William at 4.30.

The dinner last night was really extraordinarily impressive. It was the largest ever given in the history of Brasenose, larger than the one given to Haig after the War, or the quatercentenary dinner twenty years ago. I think I made a pretty good speech, but as there were no reporters there is no record of it. I was very much touched by the number of people who paid tribute both to my brother Willie and to John. Rupert Raw and a lot of I must write the old man a full description.

I saw Plesch this morning. He has given me some new medicine.

He says the "plique" is completely gone, but I have somehow upset myself, and upsetting a re-constituted inside is a slow job to cure. I talked to him like a father about his own arrangements.

Will you tell Webb that I will come back by the 1.45
