Robert Bentham, Esq.,
Department of Geology,
University College,
Nottingham.

Dear Mr. Bentham,

I have your letter of 25th March. When I first heard from
Mr. Shackleton I at once took up the matter with the North-west Territories
Council. They seem very friendly. I understand that Sir James
MacBrien asked for some further information as to your exact requirements
and as to your scientific qualifications, which I gather you
have sent. I will get hold of Sir James and find out what has happened
for I quite see there is no time to be lost.

You will understand that I am in a rather difficult position
about these matters. I cannot make a request without its being
taken as a command, and all I can do must be done informally.

The official answer is probably on the way to you. If you
do not get it soon I should recommend you to wire to Sir James MacBrien,
R.C.M. Police, Ottawa.

Yours very sincerely,
