Major-Gen. Sir James MacBrien, C.B., C.M.G., D.S.O.
R.C.M.P. Headquarters,
Ottawa

My dear MacBrien,

I think you know something about a Mr. Robert Bantham who
was in our original Ellesmereland expedition and now wants to continue
his geological investigations in the coming winter. This involves
his making his headquarters with the Police detachment at
Craig Harbour. I believe he has sent in his official application to
you, and now he writes that he must get an answer pretty soon as his
boat "The Nascopie" sails early in July, and there is not much time
to spare.

This letter is no kind of a request, for you must judge
the case on its merits; but perhaps you could expedite an answer to
Mr. Pentham?

Yours very sincerely,
