Cost.

Assuming that the Expedition receives the same support from British firms with regard to its supplies, that the Oxford University Ellesmere Land Expedition obtained, the total cost of the Expedition, apart from the cost of the Aeroplanes, should not exceed £10,000 to £12,000. Owing to the size and comparative importance of the work undertaken, this sum should not be too difficult to raise from the following sources: Proceeds of lecturing, press rights, the book, grants from Scientific Societies, and private subscriptions. If the Canadian and British Governments were prepared to co-operate in this matter, the ideal arrangement would be for the loan of aeroplanes by the R.A.F. in conjunction with the Canadian Air Force. In return for this, it should be possible to carry out an immense amount of really valuable scientific work, and at an outlay which, owing to the possibility of outside support, and the fact that the members of the Expedition are unpaid, should be no larger for the Governments concerned, than the cost of ordinary scientific work such as is carried out by the Government Geological Survey Parties.

Summary: The Main Objectives are:

1. To complete the Exploration and to carry out the Geological and Topographical Survey of the whole of NORTHERN ELLESMERE LAND.

2. To search for new land over the unknown ARCTIC OCEAN off NORTH WEST ELLESMERE LAND.
