The Rt Honble W. Mackenzie King, M.P., Laurier House, Ottawa.
It was a great pleasure to see you on Saturday and very kind of you to come and cheer me up. I am glad to say that after the most elaborate examination the doctors are now quite clear as to what is wrong with my digestion, and it is nothing serious. I am already quite comfortable, and they have given me a regime - a not very severe one - which I must stick to for the rest of my life. What a magnificent clinic they have at Montreal! There is nothing like it , that I know of, in Britain.
I send you a rough draft of what I propose to say when the President arrives. It is, I think, the right length. Will you read it most carefully and strike out any word or sentence which you think dubious. It is a case where one most weigh every word.
Yours ever,
