THE CITADEL QUEBEC

24th July, 1936.

John Edgar, Esq., St. Ann's Heath, Virginia Water, England.

My dear Old John,

It was very kind of you to write to me about my health. I was so sorry the news of it got into the papers; but in my position nowadays I have to make up my mind for this publicity.

The fact is I have not been really well since Christmas - gastritis following my old operation. I became so seedy lately that had to take desperate steps and go into hospital for examination. Happily they found nothing serious. The only cure is careful diet and rest, and I am having both here. I hope to be well enough for the visit of the President of the United States on the 31st, and for my big tour of the West, which begins on August 5th.

I am always anxious about you, and I am so sorry that you are not feeling much better. John Jameson had a scheme for a Dr. Grosvenor in the Lake district to take charge of you, and I think if that came off it would be the best thing that could happen. What you want is somebody's whole-time attention.

My mother, sister and brother went back a fortnight ago, after a most successful visit. Nothing happened to mar it and they kept well the whole time. They had good weather and saw a great deal of the country. We all send you our love .

Yours ever, John
