My dear J.B.
No words have meant more to me on this 62nd birthday anniversary than those of your letter just received: No gift has brought with it greater delight. For both, I thank you with all my heart.
Over many years, I have cherished the hope that the day might come when you and I might be found working together in this relationship which we at present enjoy. It was a larger hope, but I never doubted that some day it would be fulfilled.

It has been fulfilled at this most citical of all times not only in your life and in mine but in the affairs of this World. To this providence that has made our frienship and companionship a part of his will, and has guided and divided our parties till they have cause to be shared as one, I cannot be too humbly and prfoundly grateful.
The last volume of Scots and English poems is a priceless treasure. Is will bring music to my heart throughout this year, and, I pray for some years yet to come.
I must not add that your friendship and companionship will ever be among the radient blessings of my life.
