the Maritimes, Cape Breton island is a good deal more Hieland than the Highlands. I was constantly being addressed in Gaelic, and you never saw such a breed of tough old pipers. it is quite warm today. Susie is coming at 11 as she has to address a Catholic Women's Federation this afternoon. I have two long days before me - hospitals, the Board of Trade dinner, the opening address to the St James' Society, a Graduation ceremony at McGill & the opening of a new Hall of Residence. I get back to Ottawa on Thursday evening, but only to speak at the Civil Service dinner. After that I get a little peace.

the new President of McGill - a very good precedent. I have just had a long kind letter from President Roosevelt, written from his train in the West. He says he longs to see me oftener.

Alastair is on the high seas. We shall miss him dreadfully. I expect it is about time for John to go to London. I am glad you have seen so much of him.

I have not yet attained to what the Psalmist calls perfect "peace in the inward parts", but I am steadily improving.
