of years and pressure of Court labors, to be relieved of the
Chairmanship of the Board. Notwithstanding pressure to
retain the office, he would not change his mind. Provisionally
the Principal was requested to take his place.

In the new Charter there was provision for the election
of a Rector, by the Undergraduates, as a member of the
Board, and the choice fell on a distinguished graduate,
the Rev. S.W. Dyder, D.D., Principal of Robertson College,
Edmonton, Alta.

Recently a matter of much interest came before the
University in the form of a proposal from Col. Leonard,
of St. Catharine's, to give a tract of land contiguous to
College grounds, and to erect thereon an expensive and
commodious building for University residences. Conditions
were attached to the offer which required careful consideration,
and the University Board, and Senate, and
the Governors of the School of Mining were not of one
mind as to the suitableness of the proposed gift, with its
attendant conditions, to the University educational policy.

The following is the form in which the proposal came before
the Board:

"University Students' Residence
For G.C.T.G."

Organization and Building Committee to consist of three
members, one representing the Principal, one the Department
