Bruce Taylor came to Queen's a man who stood high for
"character, sagacity, enterprise and intellectual distinction",
qualities, it may be added, which colleagues and students,
and the countryside would be quick to appreciate. The
Board was not remiss in meeting, if it could, the splendid
offer of Chancellor Douglas; $500,000.00 towards Endowments
if other friends of Queen's put up the same amount.
Dr Strachan, as already menbtioned, was engaged as
Financial Secretary to canvass the fine old constituency,
and secure the necessary half-million.

Further, Chancellor Douglas having offered $100,000.00,
and more if required for the extension of the Kingston
General Hospital, negotiations were opened between the
Board of the Hospital and the Finance and Estates
Committee, so that the University might have a larger
measure of control in the administration of the Hospital,
and, thereby better facilities for clinical instruction in
the Medical Faculty. The Chancellor's gift, and these
negotiations were the beginnings of a series of very
great benefit to the Hospital, and of no slight value to
the University also, as later on this Record will abundantly show.

In the course of the past summer, Emeritus Prof. Nathan
Fellowes Dupuis, L.L.D., F.R.S.C., and F.R.S.E., passed away
at a ripe old ager, with every comfort around him, and in
the love and esteem of a host of friends. He was made
