Summary: Smith King. 108th USCI Co. D. Smith was enrolled and mustered on July 5, 1864. Susan King is filing a pension with minor children. She and Smith had four children: Margaret (1853), Isobel (1854), Permelia (1856), and Eliza (1864). Her name before marriage was “Susan Bell.” She was owned by John M. Bell They all resided in Fairfield, KY (Nelson county). Smith did not die during service, but died after being discharged (April 25, 1866). He was disabled while performing the duties of a soldier. The name of the disease he contracted was/is unknown. The widow, Susan Bell, lived in Nelson County, Kentucky. The enslaver of Smith was Abner King.
