Summary: Molly (Porter) Rapier was the widow of Richard “Dick” Rapier, they were married on Easter Sunday in 1860. Molly first reported that she and Richard had no children because she did not know she was entitled to a pension increase for their daughter Delia (1857). Richard Rapier died of smallpox on June 15, 1865. However, page 10 states that Richard died on September 20, 1864 at Henderson, Kentucky. He was enrolled and mustered on August 10, 1864, at Owensboro, Kentucky, in Co. “A” of the 118th Regiment. Molly Rapier did not remarry after the death of Richard and remained a resident of Evansville, Indiana. Daniel Pamplin and Andrew Hicks both served in the same regiment as Richard, but served in different companies. Both men saw Richard before he contracted smallpox and confirmed that he was a robust man in sound health at the time of his enlistment. Richard Rapier’s name is listed on the company “A” muster rolls (118th USCI), as “Dick” Rapier. Depositions on pages 11, 13-15, 21, 23-27, 48-51.
