Summary: Mary Jane Spaulding was the widow of John Spaulding who was a corporal in company “D” of the 107th regiment, USCI.They were both residents of Washington County, Kentucky, and married in January of 1855. There were no written records of Mary Jane and John”s marriage, therefore it could only be proven by testimony. Theodore Spaulding, their enslaver, served as a witness to their marriage. The actual wedding ceremony for the two took place in 1856.They had five children together: Harriet, William Daniel, Tracy Eliza, James Wallace, and John Robert. By February 4, 1911, Mary Jane received $12 a month in pension money; she died that February. “Jack Spalding” was mistaken for “John Spaulding”, Jack Spalding was owned by Richard Spalding and enrolled in company “A” of the 107th regiment, this was confirmed by Richard Spalding, Jack’s enslaver. John Spaulding died at a hospital in Point of Rocks, Virginia, on January 18, 1865, of chronic diarrhea. Depositions from Theodore and Mary M. Spaulding on pages 11-13 & 25. Jack Spaulding, Rachel M.
