Summary: Pensioner was Clark’s Widow, Jane Hiter, who lived just outside of Versailles, in Woodford County, Kentucky, at the time of filing. Clark was drafted into the 109 USCI, Co. H and died in Texana, Texas during November of 1865 from Malarial Fever. (Clark had three children: Flora, Alice & Margaret Hammond.) Affidavits from D.P. Hiter and D. Thornton on pages 6-7. Affidavits from James A Edwards and Belle Edwards on pages 8-9. James and Belle lived in Versailles, Woodford, Kentucky in 1861 and Jane and Clark were married in their home.

Summary: Claim for Widow's Pension states that Jane Hiter is the widow of Clark Hiter, a Private in Company H 109th Regiment USCT infantry. She is a resident of Woodford, Kentucky and her Post Office address is in Versailles. The soldier mustered in on 18 May 1864 as a drafted man. He died on 1 November 1865 at a camp near Texana, Texas of Malarial Fever. The claimants marriage was certified by the testimony of the parties at whose house the marriage was performed in June 1861. The couple had no children. The document was admitted on 22 November 1866 for a pension of $8 per month commencing 2 November 1865.

Summary: Widow's Application states that Jane Hiter, a 41 year old resident of Woodford, Kentucky, claims she is the widow of Clark Hiter, a Private in Company H commanded by Captain Grutcher in the 109th Regiment commanded by Colonel Abram Bartholomew. Document states Clark died in Texana, Texas on 1 September 1865 of disease. Jane married Clark on 20 June 1861. Jane lives about two miles from the town of Versailles. She and Clark have no children. Witnesses William M Dickey and James W Combs saw her make her mark.

Summary: The Adjutant General's office in regard to pension claim 128.910, states that Clark Hiter was drafted to serve for three years as a Private on 18 May 1864 at Lexington into the 109th Regiment. He mustered in to Company H and is reported to have died of Malarial Fever on 1 November 1865 at a camp near Texana, Texas.
