Summary: Benjamin Hubbard, 125th regt. USCI Co. B. Benjamin was enrolled on March 13, 1865 and died in a Louisville hospital on May 29, 1865. There is no consistent date for Benjamin’s death. Some pages say he died in April, others say he died on May 26th, or May 29th. The causes of death also vary, one page says he died of spotted fever, the other says he died from inflammation in the spine. Some pages also mention Benjamin dying in a hospital in Louisville, suggest that he died at home in Louisville, or that he died in New Albany, IN. Jane Hubbard was last paid on May 4, 1925, because she died on May 15, 1925. In the 1900s, Jane lived in Denver, Colorado. Enclosed are copies of four letters in reference to an increase of pension for Jane, which has been before the United States Pensions Committee for some time. The statement has been written as one of an emergency that should be resolved promptly. The author of this letter was an optician who fitted Jane with glasses to find her blind in one eye, and little sight in the other. She contributes to her support by needle work, but owing to her poor sight and rapidly failing health, she is unable to do it any longer and is therefore depending on the charity of her friends. She also has all of the symptoms of approaching paralysis while being in feeble health. The optician was a charter member of the Woodrow Wilson Democratic League of Essex County, Newark New Jersey, at the time he lived there in 1911. There is a letter that says Jane Hubbard died on May 14th instead of the 15th. She was buried in Denver, Colorado and left no money or property behind. She has lived with Charles Hubbard for years and her funeral expenses were defrayed by him. Charles is requesting a blank application for accrued pension to be sent to him so that he may file claim for the pension. The letter was addressed to the commissioner of pensions.
