Summary: Louisa Barrett is the widow of James Barrett of Company D 118 Regiment USCT. She is a resident of Henderson, Kentucky. James was enrolled 23 August 1864 and is reported to have died in Brownsville, Texas on 14 October 1865. The testimony of the Sergeant Major and 1st Sergeant of the Company, supported the statements of James' comrades, which show that the soldier contracted a severe cold and was sent to the hospital, where he was attacked by scurvy, which caused his death. James Barrett and Louisa Matthias where married 7 July 1863. There were no children born in their relationship. This document was admitted 27 June 1867 and a pension of $8 per month commenced 12 October 1865.

He was commanded by Colonel LC Moon. Louisa declares she was married to James on 17 July 1863. She states they have no living children and no record of their marriage because they are colored persons.
